The Climb – And it really was
When our dear leader (Faith) comes to me with new ideas for videos, nine times out of ten I respond positively.
When she said ‘We’re going to climb to the top of Pen-y-Fan’ (the highest mountain peak in South Wales), well my response was definitely within the nine, but still with a little trepidation.
My own wife, who loves walking, had not yet succeeded in getting me to the top of Pen-y-Fan after many years of trying. So it really was an accomplishment for me to give a resoundingly positive ‘Hmmmm ok’ to Faith.
The videos narration speaks of the journey being a hard slog, but being able to do anything through Christ who strengthens us. The practical elements of shooting the video that day mirrored the narration perfectly. Towards the bottom of the mountain we probably hadn’t gone 300 yards before we were caught in a shower, quick! Cameras covered up and raincoats on. It was a tough shoot.
But we got it done, despite wanting to turn around and make the suggestion to come back another day. There is a lot to be said for getting through the now, the current circumstances which can often seem overwhelming.
It’s what ‘The Climb’ is all about, on screen and the off screen story.
